When you’re more aware of yourself, you know more about your weakness and strengths. You know more about what you actually like and dislike. And you know where to place yourself to achieve the goals you want. You know what motivates you more and what are your thoughts. And if you’re self-aware. You can also know how other people actually look at you. When you take the journey towards more self-awareness, you’ll realize that you have altered thoughts, and you’re much more aligned with your thoughts in actual life. And as there’s a famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi
Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.
Mahatma Gandhi
And harmony is what brings happiness and calmness in your life. It makes you more tranquil inside. So now that we know about the benefits of becoming more aware of yourself. Let’s see how you can become more aware of yourself.
Look at yourself as a third person
Try to look at yourself and your actions from the eyes of the third person. Believe that you’re someone else inside your body, And think of what you do as a third person is watching you. This will make you realize that what are your actions aligned with. With time you’ll also know what thoughts come and go in your mind, which both collectively can help you align your actions and thoughts in the same direction.
Keep a journal
Keeping a journal can help you know what you really like and don’t like. What you think about every-day, And it will keep a track of the feelings that you get throughout the day. Soon you’ll be able to identify yourself much better after keeping a journal. You’ll know what you like and what you dislike, And you’ll notice smaller details of your life that you haven’t earlier. As much as you self-reflect on yourself, you’ll become a better person gradually, And you’ll know how is your image projected.
Set your goals and priorities
Setting goals and priorities will help you define what you actually are moving towards in life. As I would like to become a fulltime blogger, I set my goal to write 200 articles this year. And when you set goals, it motivates you for doing something about these goals. Also, writing down the reasons and motivations behind those goals can help you be motivated in the moments when your goals seem too far. When you’re not feeling that you can achieve them, you can look at the reasons and remind yourself about why did you set up the goals. If they still look relevant, you will pursue it. If not, you can change your goals.
Plan for a weeks time
Dividing your goals and reflecting on the progress and the continuation of those goals weekly. It will help you realise what you want and how much actions you are taking for the goals that you have set up. It also divides the bigger goals that you have in smaller tasks, which makes doing it a lot easier. Weekly plans have helped me realize what I like doing and what I don’t. It kept me focused when I was steering away from my goals and kept me more productive.
Practice meditation
Practicing meditation will help you in noticing your thoughts, in meditation we just notice what thoughts are coming and going inside of our head, but we don’t take actions on those thoughts. It’s a way to become more self-aware. You don’t need to do meditation for hours a day. Even 10 minutes a day is good, to begin with. Slowly and surely you’ll become more aware of yourself practicing meditation.
Practice mindfulness
Mindfulness is when you’re doing anything, like talking with someone, or cooking food, or eating food. You should be focused on that certain thing fully and you should be completely mindful about what you’re doing currently. You can shorten it as living in the moment too. It will help you notice smaller details about you and your work which will in return make you more self-aware.
