How to find your motivation for a long term goal.

by Arpita Ghayal

We start up making many big resolutions on new year’s eve and our birthday. Or on events, Monday, 1st of the month, etc. These resolutions are like long-term goals that need a lot of determination and dedication.

And yes! We are very much determined, but; only for a few days. We make many resolutions. We wish to make changes. These resolutions which demand change are always about health, habit, lifestyle, time management, focus, and relations.

When you first start a piece of work or a new project, you have a lot of motivation and enthusiasm, maybe even full of new promises. So, you dive in and bang out quite a few hours.

If you wish to complete your long-term changes then, “ focus on possibilities of the success, not on the potential of for failure.”

We are always determined to make a change in life but; what holds us back.

Entities that hold us back.

  1. Fear of change.
  2. Fear of uncertainty.
  3. Fear of failure.
  4. Waiting for luck, opportunity.
  5. Fear of being ridiculed.

Having a long term goal provides you a catalyst for motivation at every waking moment.
But, at some turns in life, the illuminating sun of motivation, hope seems to set. So, if you still want to glow in that non-illuminated period, then do-follow.

How to stay motivated for long term changes.

1. Remember your why.

Remember your why, Remember your purpose. Always ask yourself, “ why, I am doing this, man?

Your why, will never let you down. It will encompass your goals with accomplishment. You will be able to take quick actions in the direction of your goal. You will be able to change yourself.

For example, if you want to lose some weight, then losing weight is your purpose and your whys are.

  1. To be fit.
  2. To look beautiful.
  3. To live more.

Your why gives you no choice. It has only one rule of compulsion.

Set long term goals, work day and night to achieve them, and then preside the ship of your success in the ocean of accomplishments.

2. Change unproductive habits.

Identify unproductive habits and work hard to change them into productive ones. Your habits are the most vital element of your success. Habits are the stepping stones of your ladder to success.

You can identify and change your habits into productive ones. For this purpose, you can make your habit scorecard.

Just tell your mind continuously,

I will do [ HABIT ] after completing, {the PREVIOUS HABIT OR WORK ]. If you will continuously feed your mind with, following statement, your mind will soon reciprocate it. Or rather just swap up your previous unproductive habits with the productive ones. Perform the new habit you want to acquire at the same time, location.

3. Create short term goals.

Pursuing the long term goals is inherently challenging.

Break your long term goals into the short term ones. Eventually, break your short term goals into small manageable as well as achievable steps. These achievable steps include a to-do-list, writing journal.

Set the smart goals, in sense.

S – Specific. Make your goals specific. Make them clear and well-defined. Generalized goals
don’t tend to provide you, the appropriate direction, and long term motivation.

M – Measurable. Make your goals measurable. Include a precise amount, the date for your
goal.

A – Attainable. Make your goals attainable. Make sure that your goals can be attained. And
at the same time, they would give you the hope and motivation.

R – Relevant. Make your goals relevant. Goals should be relevant in the direction of your life.

T – Time-bound. Make your goals time-bound. The deadline for your goal will never let you give in. They should always push you one step forward.

Have the short term goals, but; the long term vision.

For example, if you want to write a book. Then, your book is your long term goal. Make it a short term goal by setting a goal to write 400 words daily. Then make it more achievable by increasing the number of words daily.

4. Track your progress.

Tracking the progress is significant throughout your journey to accomplishment. Tracking progress not only motivates us but; also, makes us more productive. When we track our progress, we become more purposeful.

Tracking progress, also, helps us to identify the potential obstacles and develop strategies to overcome them.

5. Celebrate your victories.

Celebrating victories will help you to enjoy your journey. Never forget to reward yourself for your achievements.

The rewards will act as the motivation source. Some people including me, work more for reward rather than anything. Reward gives us the spark to push ourselves a little more every time.

Conclusion.

“ You must have long term goals to keep you from being frustrated by short term failures.”
At any point in life, never-ever let your failures define your life.

Don’t only listen to your heart, but; follow your heart.
